Katie is a recent graduate of the Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) program at the University of Oregon. She has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Humboldt State University (now Cal Poly Humboldt). Her time there fostered her love for native plants and the understanding that protecting native ecosystems is crucial.
During her time at University of Oregon, she focused on ways to protect local ecosystems through design and centered all her planting plans around using place-based native plants. She was able to put her environmental science background to work as an assistant on the University of Oregon’s FIPL (Fuller Initiative for Productive Landscapes) Land Lab, where she performed quarterly plant surveys and long-term photo point monitoring.
Katie now understands that it is important to work with native plants as well as climate adaptive plants that will perform well over time with our transitioning climate. As an emerging professional, she hopes to bring designs to life with that in mind.
