Colliding Rivers Viewpoint is aptly named. Situated at the juncture of where the North Umpqua River and Little River meet, the acute angle causes a collision of water resulting in a spectacular visual during high water season. Commissioned by the United States Forest Service, The Satre Group along with the predecessor firm to PIVOT Architecture worked to create a plan to restore the 1930s CCC-era overlook. The resulting design included new picket fencing along the highway mirroring the historic fencing in every detail, new stone walls on the overlook and upper terrace matching seamlessly with the original stonework, and new accessible paving, restroom facility. Interpretive signage about mountain geology, river ecology and the history of the native Umpqua people who occupy this part of Oregon complete the scene.
