First constructed by Lane County Parks in the mid-1970s, this beloved community recreation amenity within Alton Baker Park has become a silted in, slow moving slough off of the Willamette River until the City of Eugene began exploring its recreation capability. The engineering firm currently known as Wood Environmental with The Satre Group as a sub-consultant was retained by the City of Eugene to study the hydrology and environment of the canal in order to increase fish passage as well as canoe/ kayak navigation. The project is currently awaiting funding.
